However, several issues still remain. To understand the Indian and global energy access challenge and the required interventions, we interviewed two renowned energy access experts – Shalu Agrawal, Program lead at the Council on Energy, Environment and Water and Dr Hisham Zerriffi, Associate Professor at the University of British Columbia. Over the years, both Shalu and Hisham have independently led numerous studies on energy access in India and in other countries. This is our first episode with two guests. An important disclaimer – Hisham is Sandeep’s PhD supervisor at the University of British Columbia.

Shalu leads The Council's work on residential energy access, demand-side management and power sector reforms. She uses data to study the changing energy landscape and devise strategies to ensure universal access to affordable, reliable and sustainable energy.

Dr Hisham Zerriffi

Associate Professor at University of British Columbia

Hisham Zerriffi is an Associate Professor in Forest Resources Management at the University of British Columbia (UBC). He was previously an Assistant Professor and the Ivan Head South/North Research Chair in the Liu Institute for Global Issues at UBC. Dr. Zerriffi’s research is at the intersection of technology, energy and the environment, with a particular focus on rural areas of the developing world.
